Helmet stickers: Grand Strand’s top performers for first round of HS football playoffs
TEAM OF THE WEEK
Green Sea Floyds: In the playoffs for the first time in nine years, the Trojans put another streak to bed last Friday, getting the job done in a 52-23 win over Military Magnet.
As a result, Green Sea Floyds earned its first postseason victory since 2003.
Leading rusher Mahammud Graham eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark in the game, running for 128 yards on 19 carries and a touchdown. Also going above the 100-yard mark for the game was Akil Guase, who also hit pay dirt in the game.
"It’s a long time coming," said Green Sea Floyds football coach Tony Sullivan. "It’s something we’ve wanted for some time. Hopefully we can get another on Friday night."
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Anthony McAfee, Carolina Forest: In his final game for the Panthers, the running back did his part to put the team on his back. Against Summerville, McAfee scored three touchdowns on the ground (20, 2 and 49 yards) and another trip to pay dirt courtesy of a 49-yard touchdown catch. Unfortunately, it came in a losing effort for him and Carolina Forest, falling 45-35 to the Green Wave.
Other top performances from those on the Grand Strand in the first round of the state playoffs:
Jayce Allen, Myrtle Beach: Had five tackles and three assists in the Seahawks’ 42-28 loss to A.C. Flora.
Zaire Barron, Georgetown: The North-South all-star had a solo tackle and three assists, among that total his 13th sack of the season. He played a role in a solid defensive effort for the Bulldogs in their 26-14 win over Manning.
Sheldon Billings, Georgetown: Among the leaders on a solid Georgetown defense, he had a solo tackle and five assists in the Bulldogs’ 26-14 win over Manning.
Kevliq Bennett, North Myrtle Beach: The Chiefs’ defensive standout had three solo tackles and six assists in his team’s 40-14 win over Dreher.
Tysheem Best, Conway: Notched seven solo tackles and an assist in the Tigers’ 36-33 win over Goose Creek.
Jonah Booth, Conway: Had eight solo tackles and an assist in the Tigers’ 36-33 win over Goose Creek.
Willie Brantley, Conway: Caught six passes for 107 yards and a 48-yard touchdown that proved to be a game-winner of the Tigers’ 36-33 win over Goose Creek.
Chase Brill, Myrtle Beach: Had four tackles and four assists in the Seahawks’ 42-28 loss to A.C. Flora.
Juwuan Brown, Conway: Had eight solo tackles and an assist in the Tigers’ 36-33 win over Goose Creek.
Carvers Bay defense: The Bears forced six Buford turnovers in a 50-19 win over Buford.
Peyton Derrick, Conway: Completed 21 of his 31 passes for 294 yards and two scores, along with 12 rushes for 41 yards and two more trips to pay dirt in the Tigers’ 36-33 win over Goose Creek.
Daron Finkley, Myrtle Beach: Caught 12 passes for 111 yards and a touchdown in the Seahawks’ 42-28 loss to A.C. Flora.
Akil Gause, Green Sea Floyds: The senior had 101 yards on 10 carries and a touchdown for the Trojans in a 52-23 win over Military Magnet.
Tyler Gore, North Myrtle Beach: The Chiefs’ defensive back had four solo tackles and three assists — among those a sack — and an interception in his team’s 40-14 win over Dreher.
Demarcus Grant, Georgetown: The defensive tackle had two solo tackles and four assists in the Bulldogs’ 26-14 win over Manning.
Mahammud Graham, Green Sea Floyds: Had 19 carries for 128 yards and two touchdown for the Trojans in a 52-23 win over Military Magnet.
Jermani Green, Myrtle Beach: The Seahawks’ running back was a better weapon through the air last Friday, catching eight balls for 87 yards and two touchdowns in his team’s 42-28 loss to A.C. Flora.
Ja’Rique Isaiah, Loris: The Lions’ wideout had four catches for 71 yards in their 21-6 loss to Timberland.
Tony Lara, Georgetown: The Bulldogs’ senior workhorse had nine carries for 72 yards and a touchdown in their 26-14 win over Manning.
Kwame Livingston, North Myrtle Beach: Notched six solo tackles and five assists, among that total a sack in the Chiefs’ 40-14 win over Dreher.
Cason McClendon, North Myrtle Beach: Completed 9 of 16 passes for 181 yards and three touchdowns in North Myrtle Beach’s 40-14 win over Dreher.
Sean McGonigal, Myrtle Beach: In his final game as a Seahawks, the senior defensive lineman had four solo tackles and five assists, along with an area-high 16th sack of the season in his team’s 42-28 loss to A.C. Flora.
Jaylen Moody, Conway: Notched 13 solo tackles and an assist in the Tigers’ 36-33 win over Goose Creek.
Juwon Moody, Conway: Caught four passes for 60 yards and a touchdown in the Tigers’ 36-33 win over Goose Creek.
Malik Morant, Conway: Had nine solo tackles in the Tigers’ 36-33 win over Goose Creek.
Keyonte Sessions, Myrtle Beach: The senior all-purpose man had six solo tackles and eight assists in the Seahawks’ 42-28 loss to A.C. Flora.
Darren Stanley, Conway: Caught three passes for 66 yards and an key interception down the stretch in the Tigers’ 36-33 win over Goose Creek.
Terrill Steele, Georgetown: He notched a pair of solo tackles and two assists, among them a sack in the Bulldogs’ 26-14 win over Manning.
Fred Taylor, Georgetown: The junior had an interception on defense along with 33 yards on four carries and a touchdown for the Bulldogs in their 26-14 win over Manning.
Dlanor Tilton, Myrtle Beach: Notched five solo tackles and two assists in the Seahawks’ 42-28 loss to A.C. Flora.
Levi White, Carvers Bay: Rushed for 175 yards and five touchdown for the Bears in their 50-19 win over Buford.
