Green Sea Floyds comes up short against Hannah-Pamplico
The Trojans know exactly what they must do now.
“We’ve got to win the next two,” Green Sea Floyds coach Tony Sullivan said following Friday night’s 31-28 loss to Hannah-Pamplico. “Most definitely got to win the next two, got to beat Creek Bridge and East Clarendon.”
The Trojans fell to 0-3 in Region VI-A play with Friday’s loss, and now trail East Clarendon (1-2) – which beat Creek Bridge 14-12 Friday night and will host GSF in the regular-season finale in two weeks – and sit tied with the Warriors (0-3), who they host next Friday. All three are vying for the fourth playoff spot out of the region.
Green Sea Floyds could have benefited from a win this week, but it ran into a superior team despite putting up a good fight.
“Our kids played hard. We couldn’t really stop them on offense,” Sullivan said. “They just played hard. They’re a real good football team. They’re got 19 seniors and they’ve got a lot of confidence and that goes a long way. They played tough, they played hard and we had a hard time tackling them tonight.”
Offensively, the Trojans piled up 307 yards on 35 carries. Muhammad Graham ran 12 times for 127 yards and two touchdowns while also scoring on a 75-yard kickoff return, and Akil Gause added 94 yards and a score on 11 carries.
“We held the ball; we didn’t turn the ball over. We didn’t fumble the ball. That’s something that’s a positive that we’ve been working on,” Sullivan said. “We’ve just got to execute a little bit better. We’ve just got to keep playing hard.”
