Beach Ball Classic roundup: How South Carolina top contender Dorman opened tournament
Dorman started the 2019 Beach Ball Classic in dominant fashion at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center on Thursday.
However, it wasn’t Clemson signee P.J. Hall nor Butler recruit Myles Tate who ultimately led the charge in a 72-45 opening-round win over Buchtel (Ohio).
Jalen Breazeale scored 22 points and Justin Amadi had 17 to pace the Cavaliers.
Hall finished with 10 points in an efficient 5-for-8 performance in just 17 minutes, while Tate had 10 assists despite shooting 1-for-6 from the field.
Ronell Perie II paced Buchtel with 15.
Whitney Young (Ill.) 71, St. Thomas (Texas) 60: Tyler Beard had 16 points and Duke signee D.J. Steward added 12 points and four assists to lead the Dolphins to a win on the opening day.
Jonathan had a team-high 15 points in the loss.
St. Francis (Ga.) 73, Izard County (Ark.) 64: Xavier signee Dwon Odom and Jordan Brown each had a team-high 18 points and Jusaun Holt added 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Knights.
Caleb Faulkner had a game-high 23 points, Justus Cooper added 21 and Coby Everett had 18 in the loss.
Coronado (Nev.) 73, Socastee 35: ESPN’s top-rated shooting guard in the class of 2021, Jaden Hardy, led a balanced attack with 12 points as the Cougars advanced over the local squad.
Mike Herrin had a game-high 20 points for the Braves.
