▪ (At) Green Sea Floyds 5, North Myrtle Beach 2 | With several of its key players back this season, the Green Sea Floyds girls tennis team opened up with a 5-2 win over North Myrtle Beach on Tuesday.

Kaylee Jordan (No. 1), Carlyse Major (3) Hali Hutchinson (4) each earned singles victories and the Trojans swept the two doubles matches.

Green Sea Floyds coach Tracy Kienast is hopeful having a strong returning core will lead to a successful season.

“We have a tough region; there’s six teams and only two of us make [the playoffs],” he said. “Johnsonville is going to be tough. East Clarendon is going to be tough. I don’t know what Mullins has for sure, but it’s going to be tough to nail down one of those top two spots.

“They worked out in the summer and they’re definitely into it.”

▪ Singles: Kaylee Jordan (GSF) def. Taylor Gore 6-2, 6-1; Lorena Beltran (NMB) def. Emmy Kienast 6-2, 6-3; Carlyse Major (GSF) def. Malaaysia Williams 6-4, 6-2; Hali Hutchinson (GSF) def. Elena Castanes 6-2, 6-1; Rachel Grove (NMB) def. Tamara Jackson 8-6.
