Even the best intentions wouldn’t have seemed to line up this nicely for the baseball programs at Carolina Forest and Aynor.

With two weeks of region play remaining, the two teams are within striking distance of a regular-season title and an all-important No. 1 playoff seed. The Panthers have already locked up a playoff berth and can clinch the region championship as early as Tuesday with a victory and some help from the rest of the region. The Blue Jackets are in a similar position, with their next win locking up a top-two finish and two wins clinching the region crown.

Region VII-AAA has continued its trend of tight finishes in both baseball and softball. In baseball, the top four teams are separated by just one game; softball teams North Myrtle Beach, St. James and Georgetown are all tied for first place at 4-1 at the midway point of the region slate.
