Boys golf
▪ North Myrtle Beach’s boys golf team continued its strong start to the 2016 season on Wednesday, shooting a 154 to defeat Horry County foes Aynor and Loris at Diamondback Golf Course.
Leading the way for the Chiefs was Jake Dupuis, who shot a 37 on the day. Hanging close were teammates McClure Thompson (38), Matthew Griego (39) and T.J. Albury (40).
Aynor finished 26 strokes back with a team score of 180. Seventh grader Braeden Barnett, making his debut at the varsity level, led the Blue Jackets by posting a 43.
In addition to Barnett, leading scorers for Aynor included Colin Peavy with a 44, Max Roberts shooting a 45 and Owen Barnhill with a 48.
Loris finished with a 214 for the day, led by Lucas Little shooting a 51. Other leading scores for the Lions were Tre’Kuan Bellamy with a 52, Kyle Dirmeyer with a 54 and Dawson Pickford with a 57.
Boys lacrosse
▪ (At) Socastee 10, Myrtle Beach 4 | Cameron Lidard had four goals and Stephen Sperbeck added two goals and an assist to lead the Braves to a win over the Seahawks.
Jordan Byrd, Alec Dowd, Joey Cuppett and Ross Mashburn each had one goal for Socastee and Zach Shear, Joey Cuppett and Griffin Byers had one assist apiece.
Dowd gathered 13 ground balls, and Joe DiSalvo and Ben Whitt each collected five. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Nick Robles made six saves en route to the win.
Socastee will look to keep things rolling as the Braves are set to host Hilton Head on Saturday.
Girls soccer
▪ (At) North Myrtle Beach 1, Myrtle Beach 0 | Sophomore Hadley Hudson scored the lone goal, and junior goalkeeper Montana Fields recorded 12 saves to lead the Chiefs to a Region VII-AAA win over the Seahawks.
