▪  In golf action, the North Myrtle Beach boys golf team defeated region foe Myrte Beach by 12 strokes Monday at Eagles Nest Golf Club in Little River, 152-164.

The Chiefs’ Jake Dupuis and Matthew Griego both shot a 1-under par 37 to help lead their team to victory.

▪  Over the weekend, the Waccamaw boys golf team placed second out of 26 teams at the Members Club Junior Invitational at the Wildewood Golf Club in Columbia.

For the 54-hole tournament, the Warriors shot a three-day 910. Cannon (N.C.) won the event with a team total of 907.

Despite falling short on the overall team leaderboard, Waccamaw’s Patrick Golden brought home the event’s top honor, finishing 6-under following a three-day 210.

He won the individual championship on the first hole of a playoff over Boiling Springs’ Trent Phillips.

Will Canipe (230), Chris Kaylor (234), Trey Salley (241) and Jackson Cole (245) also contributed to the Warriors’ strong showing.

Also taking part in the tournament was North Myrtle Beach, which shot a three-day 974, good for a 13th place finish. Matthew Griego wound up as the low scorer for the Chiefs.
