High school roundup (March 1, 2016)
Boys lacrosse
▪ (At) Ashley (N.C.) 17, Socastee 4 | Zach Shear had two goals for the Braves, but the Screaming Eagles proved to be too much Tuesday.
Stephen Sperceck and Hunter Moses had one goal apiece for Socastee (0-3), goalkeeper Kevin Hernandez recorded 12 saves and Alec Dowd had eight groundballs along with nine faceoff wins.
“Honestly, we played well with how poor the outcome was,” Braves coach Matt Fox said. “We were on the defensive a lot and thought we played disciplined on defense. Luke Bauerly matched up their No. 1 guy and held him to just a few goals, and Jacob Parrett and Josh Acosta played well with unity. Playing on defense as much as we did, I thought it was good.”
Fox believes Tuesday’s loss will help his team as it prepares for an away match against the Myrtle Beach Seahawks on Thursday.
“We’re looking forward to the opportunity playing Thursday,” Fox said. “It’s a good rivalry game.”
