Girls basketball

▪ (At) Loris 58, Marion 55 | Neandra Gause had 15 points and eight rebounds, Lanice Harris added 11 points and 11 rebounds, and Myia Bellamy contributed 10 points and nine rebounds as the Lions held off the Swamp Foxes.

The victory allowed Loris to improve to 3-2 in Region VIII-AA play.

“It’s a big win,” Lions coach Fred Grate said. “It does a lot for our girls’ confidence and their morale.”

Loris held off Marion by hitting its free throws down the stretch.

“It shows that they have a lot of poise and they’re constantly working harder to get better and better,” Grate said.

The Chiefs held St. James cogs Kelsi Bachmann and Kimmie Hotzelt to a combined 11 points. Bachmann, who had seven Friday, scored double that in the first meeting.

“Bachmann did a pretty good job against us the first time we played,” Hunt said. “We did a really good job of defending her tonight and cut that in half.”
