Girls basketball

▪ St. James 39, (at) Lake City 14 | Following a loss Tuesday night against Myrtle Beach, St. James girls basketball coach Stan Patterson wanted to see better effort from his team on the defensive end.

His team delivered on Friday night at Lake City.

Spurred by a solid effort on the defensive end, the Sharks started the second half on a 15-0 run to open things up against Lake City en route to a big win.

“It was a big win for us,” Patterson said. “After getting beat Tuesday night, it was big for us to get this win and keep pace in conference play.”

St. James was paced by Kimmie Hotzelt’s 10 points, while Kelsi Bachmann added seven of her own.

Makayla Barr led Lake City with four points.

Games postponed

Due to the winter storm barreling through the Carolinas, several of Friday night’s basketball doubleheaders were postponed to a date yet to be determined. Among the games postponed were: Marion at Waccamaw; Carvers Bay at Hemingway; Green Sea Floyds at Latta; Aynor at Mullins; Georgetown at Wilson.
