Conway girls basketball tops North Myrtle Beach in non-region finale

▪ (At) Conway 52, North Myrtle Beach 48 | Aishera Williams had 22 points and five steals and Janecia Hemingway had eight points and nine rebounds to lead the Tigers to a win over the Chiefs in their final non-region game.

Conway, which got out to a 12-point lead at halftime, overcame a sluggish start to the second half and held on to win.

“I thought we started pretty strong,” Tigers coach Shamae Hemingway said. “We had a lapse in the second half taking care of the ball, but the girls – at the end – didn’t fall under pressure. They kept their composure and were able to finish.”

Zakera Chadmon added six points and six rebounds, Lenaejha Evans chipped in eight points and Danielle Robinson had two points and grabbed five boards for Conway (7-4), which opens Region VI-AAAA play Tuesday as they host Socastee at 6 p.m.

Makala Gore had a season-high 19 points and Aquera Johnson scored 15 for the Chiefs, who dropped to 4-9. North Myrtle Beach takes on Socastee at 6 p.m. Friday, before opening Region VII-AAA play Tuesday as the Chiefs travel to take on St. James at 6 p.m.
