St. Mary’s Catholic’s Mackenzie Trpcic scored 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting Tuesday, helping propel her team to a 45-39 victory over Myrtle Beach in the third place game at the CresCom Bank Holiday Invitational.

Midway through the second half, a 7-0 run pushed the Crusaders’ lead to double-digits, punctuated by a lay-up by Trpcic. She was one of a pair of St. Mary’s Catholic players in double figures, followed up by Halle Bovell who had 10 points.

A pair of Myrtle Beach players also were in double figures, led by Nia Sumpter with 12 points. Ivy Collins chipped in 10 points of her own on 5-of-8 shooting.

A solid performer throughout the tournament, the Seahawks’ Keocia Walker was held in check with four points. Nevertheless, she was given the CresCom Bank Holiday Invitational’s Individual Hustle Award.

“Honestly, from the beginning, before the game even started, we were like, ‘we’re going to be either third or fourth,” she said. “And in my opinion, getting third or fourth place is something that nobody in this whole arena would’ve even imagined Myrtle Beach doing. ... It’s my last tournament here, so I was just going to leave it all out there and we have it all we got.

“We came up short, but these teams are awesome and we made an impact.”
