Robert Ripley has quickly translated his success on the football field to the basketball court.

In the Steel-Town Shootout in Georgetown, Ripley scored a game-high 18 points and was also named to the all-tournament team as Johnsonville took down Waccamaw 50-38 in a consolation game. On the gridiron, Ripley rushed for over 1,800 yards and 24 touchdowns as the running back of the Flashes, who were eliminated by Whale Branch in the first round of the Class AA, Division II playoffs.

Kenley Vereen had a team-high 13 points, Jawan Bryant scored 11 and Justin Busby had eight to pace Waccamaw. Busby was also named to the all-tournament team.

▪ Andrews 41, (at) Georgetown 33 | Wanye Moore had 17 points and Jailyn Carrington scored 10 as the Yellow Jackets got past Georgetown in the championship of the Steel-Town Shootout.

Moore and Kaleef Myers – who had seven points – were named to the all-tournament team. Georgetown’s Tyrez Snow scored a team-high 12 points and Darius Sabb had seven points, eight rebounds and six blocks as both were named to the all-tournament team as well.

Carvers Bay will host the Bulldogs next Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the season opener for both teams.

“It’s always good to get the first win of year,” Braves coach DeAndre Scott said. “Now we have something to build off of.”

Meanwhile, Waccamaw takes on Georgetown at 11:30 a.m. and Loris will play Green Sea Floyds at 10 a.m., also in consolation games.
