Three area runners earn runner-up finishes at cross country Lower State meets
Three area runners earned runner-up finishes Saturday at their respective cross country Lower State meets.
Myrtle Beach’s Ethan Epstein (16:47.10) and Morgan Apperson (19:42.70) each finished second in their respective Class AAA races in Darlington, and Aynor’s Joey O’Neill (16:57.78) placed second in the boys Class AA race in Columbia.
Tyler Flannelly was fifth (17:40.39) and Curt Caudle placed 19th (18:35.29) to help the Seahawks’ boys team (82 points) finish second to Hilton Head (23). Matthew Taylor finished 10th (18:14.07) for North Myrtle Beach. Georgetown finished seventh and St. James was ninth.
Kailey Flannelly added another top-20 finish (15th, 22:00.79) to help the Myrtle Beach girls to a fifth-place finish. North Myrtle Beach placed third, Georgetown was sixth and St. James was ninth.
In Class AA, Perrin Jones placed fourth (17:26.76), Jack Moody was eighth (17:31.62), Berndt Anderson finished 12th (17:34.93), Matt Macleod placed 15th (17:41.28) and Jeremy Green was 16th (17:44.67) as Waccamaw (55) placed second to Academic Magnet (44).
Class AA girls results weren’t immediately available.
