Area sports briefs (Oct. 21)
High school cross country
The Myrtle Beach boys and girls cross country teams took home victories in the Region VIII-AAA meet held at Wilson on Wednesday.
On the boys’ side, Senior Ethan Epstein (17:35) finished first, while Seahawks eighth grader Tyler Flannelly (18:26) took second. Other Myrtle Beach finishers: Francisco Garcia (5th, 18:55), Austin Parker (8th, 19:27), Tanner Dunn (11th, 19:34), Curt Caudle (12th, 19:39), Cameron Friend (23rd, 21:10).
Epstein, Flannelly, Garcia and Parker were all named to the All-Region team.
On the girls’ side, Myrtle Beach’s Morgan Apperson (20:50) was first, Kailey Flannelly (21:39) was third and Rachael Woodard (22:26) was fourth. All three were named to the All-Region squad.
High school girls tennis
Green Sea Floyds 5, Hannah-Pamplico 2 | The Trojans’ season came to an end. Green Sea Floyds took a victory on Tuesday but they fell just short of a playoff spot out of Region VIII-A, finishing third behind Johnsonville and East Clarendon.

Doubles – Jordan/Faulk (GSF) d. Hyman/Fennell 6-4, 6-2; Jenna Hyman/Mary Grace Mims (HP) d. Chance Caulder/Tiffany Watt 6-3, 6-4.
Records – Green Sea Floyds 8-5, Hannah-Pamplico 0-12.
