Girls golf
The Aynor girls golf team shot 391 in the first round of the Class AA state championship tournament Monday at Black Golf Club in Longs to sit in fourth place.
Bishop England fired 348 for a 16-stroke lead over Powdersville (361) and St. Joseph’s (364).
The Blue Jackets’ Mary Kate Richardson shot 89, Bailey Richardson shot 91, Rachael Wilkinson shot 104, Taylor Hughes shot 107 and Marissa Lennon shot 110.
“I think they were trying too hard,” Aynor coach and Black Bear head pro Patrick Wilkinson said. “They realized they were paired with three of the top teams in the state. Maybe inexperience played a role. We got off to a rough start and could never recover. I thought if we couldn’t win we’d have a good chance at second.”
The second round is Tuesday.
Waccamaw (503) was in 14th place and Loris (538) was in 15th.

The Carolina Forest girls golf team shot 62 to finish seventh at the Class AAAA Lower State tournament at Wescott Plantation in Summerville.
The Panthers finsihed 48 strokes behind winner Wando, but advanced to the state tournament.
Jamie Karl shot an 85 to tie for 15th.

Girls tennis
▪ (At) Myrtle Beach 7, North Myrtle Beach 0 | The Seahawks cruised to a win to finish the Region VII-AAA slate undefeated at 8-0.
Myrtle Beach won the region for the fifth straight season and will have more than a week to prepare for the playoffs, which have been pushed back a week. The Seahawks will host a first-round match Oct. 29.
“It’s always beneficial to have a little extra time,” Seahawks coach Jeri Himmelsbach said. “The rain and flooding has kind of hurt everybody. We’re kind of peaking here so it’s a plus and a minus. We’ll turn it into a plus in practice. … I think we’ll be fine. We’ll gear up.”

Myrtle Beach 3, (at) Socastee 2: Gracie Davis had 14 kills, Maggie Slabinski added 13 and Cassie Runyon had 10 as the Seahawks won 25-17, 21-25, 12-25, 25-23, 15-6.
Emily Wunder had five blocks and Dani Hix had 33 assists for Myrtle Beach, which finished the regular season 15-1.
