Carolina Forest’s Jamie Karl, Sydney Abruzzino and Sami Spencer shared medalist honors with Socastee’s Lawson Devers as they helped the Panthers to a Region VI-AAAA title Tuesday at Shaftesbury Glen.

Carolina Forest, Socastee, Conway and South Florence each qualified for the Class AAAA Lower State tournament to be played Monday in Summerville.

The Panthers’ trio each shot 81, scores coach Vil Caroso was pleased with considering the course was still dealing with issues from the recent rain and flooding.

“That golf course was drenched today,” he said. “We had to maneuver around tons of water. … It played tough.”

Nonetheless, he believes his team is in good shape heading into the Lower State tournament at The Golf Club at Wescott Plantation next week – and beyond.

“Our goal at beginning of the year was to be top five in the state. I can foresee it,” Caroso said. “We can even win it. We’ve gotten better.”
