Three Grand Strand teams to play for SC tennis, volleyball championships
Three Grand Strand teams will play for state championships this weekend.
Carolina Forest boys volleyball and girls tennis teams will play for 5A titles while North Myrtle Beach will play for 4A girls volleyball championship.
The Carolina Forest boys defeated Cane Bay, 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-18) on Monday to win the Class 5A Lower State championship. The Panthers (33-4-4) will play Dorman at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at Dreher High School in Columbia. This is the first year boys volleyball is being recognized as a championship sport.
Carolina Forest girls tennis team defeated Conway, 4-2, to win the Class 5A Lower State championship. The Panthers play Spartanburg at 10 a.m. on Saturday for the 5A championship at the Eddie Floyd Tennis Center in Florence.
It’s Carolina Forest’s second championship appearance in the last three years. The Panthers defeated Riverside to win the 2021 championship.
North Myrtle Beach is headed to the 4A girls volleyball championship after a 3-1 (25-16, 22-25, 25-23, 25-20) win over Lucy Beckham. The Chiefs are 43-1 on the season and will play South Aiken at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Dreher High School. NMB defeated South Aiken, 2-0, on Sept. 30.
It is NMB’s sixth championship appearance and second straight.Aiken defeated the Chiefs in last year’s championship.
Against Lucy Beckham, Clara Cloninger had 23 kills, 4 aces and Bella Loeswick had 38 assists and 18 digs. Kendall Scanlin had 21 digs, Olivia Borgman added eight kills, four blocks.
The Myrtle Beach girls tennis team lost to Lucy Beckham, 4-2, in the Class 4A Lower State championship.
