Monday’s high school roundup

The Myrtle Beach boys golf team shot 26-over 314 and was tied for fifth after the first round of the Class AAA state tournament at The General James Hackler Golf Course at Coastal Carolina University.

The Lower State champion Seahawks were 12 strokes behind leader Wren.

North Myrtle Beach (323) and St. James (323) were tied for 10th.

Emerald’s Coleman Self was the individual leader after shooting 2-under 70. St. James’ Karsten Kenley (76) was the high area individual in a tie for 13th.

Boys tennis

St. James’ Jeffrey Dayton reached the Class AAAA/AAA boys individual state tennis tournament semifinals for the first time.

Dayton defeated Lucas McClamrock (A.C. Flora) 6-0, 6-1 in the first round, Omar Williams (Spartanburg) 6-1, 6-1 in the second round and Patrick Tobacco (Dorman) 3-6, 6-3, 10-6 in the third round to reach the semifinals, where he’ll face Wando’s Scott Cameron at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center.

Socastee’s Britton Bellamy fell short of the semifinals, losing to Spartanburg’s Chambers Easterling 6-1, 7-5 in the third round, but still made all-state for finishing in the top eight of the 32-player field. Bellamy beat McLeod Barber (Aiken) 6-0, 6-3 in the first round and Evan Hanner (Dreher) 6-0, 6-0 in the second round.

Waccamaw’s Justin Dunn and Paul Hendrix will play each other Tuesday for the Class AA/A title.
