Tuesday’s area sports briefs
The Myrtle Beach baseball team has been in a similar situation.
And it wasn’t too long ago.
After losing 4-3 to Gilbert on Tuesday, the Seahawks are on the brink of elimination in the Class AAA Lower State tournament.
Myrtle Beach – which made its way through the loser’s bracket in district play to reach Lower State – will host Berkeley at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
“We’re still pretty confident,” said Myrtle Beach coach Tim Christy, whose team committed three errors and saw Gilbert score four unearned runs Tuesday. “We’ve been down this road before. In the playoffs you need to play clean baseball and we didn’t do that in the last 2 1/2 innings.”

▪ Enzo Farrar shot a 6-over 78 to help Carolina Forest to a sixth-place finish in the Class AAAA Lower State tournament on Monday at Beech Creek Golf Club that earned the Panthers a berth into the state tournament.
“I’m proud of the guys because I’ve got a young team,” Panthers coach Vil Caroso said. “I’ve got one senior. We beat some pretty good teams.”
The top eight advanced to the state tournament, to be played Monday and Tuesday at Furman University.
It wasn’t easy for those that did, however. For example, Carolina Forest teed off at 11 a.m. and didn’t get off the course until 7:45 p.m. because of several rain delays.
“We’ve dealt with [those situations] in home matches, but not like that,” Caroso said. “When you get to the big guns like that, it’s tough [to overcome].
