Monday’s area sports briefs

The Myrtle Beach baseball team will have to a wait another day to decide its Class AAA Lower State opener.

The Seahawks were leading 3-1 Monday night when the game was suspended in the fifth inning because of inclement weather.

The game is scheduled to be resumed at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

High school baseball

▪ (At) Wando 2, Carolina Forest 1 | Cameron Cauble was 2-for-3 with an RBI, but the Panthers fell short in a Lower State tournament game.

Carolina Forest will host the Sumter-South Aiken winner in an elimination game Wednesday.

Myrtle Beach Pelicans

▪ Myrtle Beach 8, (at) Winston-Salem 2 | Billy McKinney was named Carolina League Player of the Week on Monday and he followed it up with a three-RBI game to lead the Pelicans to a win.

Daniel Lockhart added a solo home run and Mark Zagunis, Wes Darvill and Carlos Penalver each drove in runs for Myrtle Beach as well.

James Pugliese (2-0) got the win in relief, allowing one run on two hits in two innings.
