Thursday’s area sports briefs

Kolin Causey did it on the mound and at the plate Thursday night.

The result was a resounding win for the Loris baseball team to open the Class AA District VI playoffs.

Causey tossed a one-hit shutout and drove in two runs at the plate to lead the Lions to a 7-0 win over Timberland.

Causey finished 3-for-4 at the plate for Loris, which will head to Bishop England on Saturday.
