Tuesday’s area sports briefs
▪ Daniel Graves earned medalist honors as he shot an even-par 36 to lead the North Myrtle Beach golf team to a win over St. James.
Vijay Mishra shot a 2-over 38, Colin Reno had a 3-over 39 and McClure Thompson shot a 5-over 41 to round out the Chiefs’ scoring.
“I thought they played fairly well,” North Myrtle Beach coach David Small said. “We’ve still got some things we’re trying to do but all-in-all I’m real pleased.”
Aynor will host the Chiefs on Thursday at 4:30 p.m., but Small admitted his team is ultimately looking forward to the Blue Jacket Invitational – which is held at Aynor – on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
“All the teams in the area are looking forward to getting in that last big tournament before region [play] starts,” Small said.
However, Small said his team can be inconsistent at times and doesn’t know which team will show up to the tournament.
“One day you feel good and the next day you just don’t know; there’s so many good teams so any given day it can be anybody [that wins],” Small said. “Today we feel good, but tomorrow could be different. You just need to take it a day a time because we do have some strong teams around here.”
