Updated baseball and softball region standings through April 19

St. James softball coach Adam Jones said in a text that the coming days are going to be a “tough, fun week.”

Soon, he’s going to decide which of those two adjectives he meant more.

The Sharks are one of four area softball teams that have four region games scheduled for the final week of the regular season, joining North Myrtle Beach, Georgetown and Waccamaw. Georgetown’s baseball team also has four region games remaining.

Simply, those five teams are going to be cramming 40 percent of the games that determine their playoff hopes into five days, a result of multiple rainouts. If there’s any relief, it’s that St. James, North Myrtle Beach and Georgetown softball are playing for seeding, not postseason berths.

And with 11 more area baseball and softball teams with three games remaining, region standings are likely going to shift at least somewhat each night.

Updated standings and remaining region games are below. Teams with an asterisk next to their record have already clinched a playoff berth. The top four teams in each region qualify for the postseason.
