▪ (At) AC Flora 16, Socastee 4 | The Braves season came to an end with a loss to AC Flora in the first round of the Class AAAA playoffs on Tuesday.

“It was a good season. It was tough,” Socastee coach Matt Fox said. “We played some good teams and some real good competition. But we had a good year, we were 7-5 in-state and that’s a good feat.”

Senior Nick Borriello had a hat trick and an assist in his final game with the Braves and senior Roby Haynes had a goal and an assist.

“I had really good play from my seniors all year,” Fox said. “Borriello contributed so much and really distributed the ball. Roby Haynes while he didn’t always show up in the stat sheet every night, he was a leader on the field. I’m looking forward to what both of those guys can do in their collegiate careers.”

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Nick Robles had 12 saves Tuesday and Fox said he is going to build around his goalie next season.

“Robles had a great year,” Fox said. “He played lights out and he’s a big time player. I look forward to his senior year and seeing him play in college, too.”\

Meanwhile, the addition of area lacrosse programs like Carolina Forest, Myrtle Beach and St. James this year has helped Socastee (7-8), Fox said.

“Those new area programs really pushed us,” Fox said. “It will certainly help us down the road and they make our guys want to play harder and be better. But it was a good season and injuries really hurt us late in the year.”

While it always stings to lose in the playoffs, Fox is already looking forward to next season.

“At the end of the day, you hate to lose the last one but we’re excited for next year considering most of our team this year is sophomores,” Fox said.
