Clock strikes midnight on Horry Post 111’s state American Legion tourney run

PhotoSpin

Midnight struck a bit earlier than Horry Post 111 had hoped.

Able to stave off elimination the previous day at the S.C. American Legion baseball tournament, the local club was unable to replicate the feat on Monday, falling 6-2 to Inman Post 45 at Sumter’s Riley Park.

After each team scratched runs across in the opening frame, Inman scored five out of the game’s final six runs — doing so over a span of four innings.

A two-out rally in the fourth would prove decisive for both clubs. With a runner on, Post 45 leadoff man Mike Elijah tripled, allowing Jacob Murphy to score.

Mason Streater would follow with a hit, bringing Elijah home to add to make the score 4-1.

While Horry cut into the deficit with a run in the top half of the fifth, Inman answered with runs of their own in the fifth and sixth innings for their its tally.

Post 111 had an opportunity to make it a game in the seventh, loading the bases with two outs. It was unable to cash in, though, as Inman’s Clayton Caudell struck out Jim Cagle to end the frame.

Horry would not threaten again, with Post 45 earning the game’s final six outs with relative ease.

Adam Leiszler picked up the win for Inman, going 6 2/3 innings. He gave up two runs on five hits, striking out five Post 111 batters.

Horry’s Caleb Lindaberry went six innings, ceding six runs on 11 hits.
