Springs, Myrtle Beach rack up Region VII-4A honors

Following a solid season the court, five Myrtle Beach players were named all-region performers.

Leading the way was senior standout Emma Springs, who was named Region VII-4A Player of the Year. Also making the team for the Seahawks were Carrington Callihan, Bailey Deskins, Paxton Gentry and Sarah Woodard.

St. James and North Myrtle Beach each had two on the all-region team. For the Sharks, it was France Ford and Bailey Rabon, while the Chiefs’ Lorena Beltram and Taylor Gore were honored.

Wilson’s Santana Berea, Nikita Jona, Rebecca Liu and Courtney Timmons were the other remaining members of the all-region team.

North Myrtle Beach baseball standout Donald Hansis committed to Spartanburg Methodist College last week. In 24 games last year, he batted .338 with nine doubles and 20 RBIs. He also had a home run. … It was a busy weekend for area football recruits last weekend, as a bevy of them made trips to college campuses. Continuing his recent journey across the Carolinas was Conway junior offensive lineman Gunner Britton, who paid a visit to Wake Forest. In addition to his trip to Winston-Salem, he has visited Appalachian State, Clemson, Coastal Carolina and South Carolina over the course of the past several weeks. A pair of Britton’s senior teammates also took forays away from the Grand Strand, linebacker Jonah Booth traveling to Newberry for its tilt with Lenoir-Rhyne, while receiver Darren Stanley was in Clinton taking in Presbyterian’s game with Coastal Carolina. … North Myrtle Beach kicker Andrew Smith has also been busy, the senior paying a visit to Raleigh and N.C. State for its game with Boston College. It is his second trip to a college campus in a few weeks, following a visit to the University of Florida.
