Late surge allows Carolina Forest to finish 10th at state tournament

A strong second day at the Members Club at Wildewood in Columbia helped Carolina Forest earn a top-10 finish at the Class 5A girls golf state tournament.

The Panthers shot a team score of 389 for the day, led by Sami Spencer’s 25-over 97. Niki Robertson also did her part to lead the charge, shooting a 27-over 99.

Socastee finished the 14th in the tournament, shooting an 826 as a team.

Lexington claimed the Class 5A title with a team score of 645. White Knoll and Blythewood were second and third with scores of 683 and 701, respectively.

At the Class 3A girls golf state tournament in Fountain Inn, Aynor brought home 12th place following a two-day score of 792. Georgetown was 17th with an 855.

Bishop England took home the Championship trophy with a 2-day total of 645 and Bluffton finishing as runne-up with a 2-day total of 687.

Andrew Jackson’s Emily Cox bested Christ Church’s Peyton Gillespie on the first hole of sudden death to win the individual title. Both girls finished the 36-hole regulation play with a 3-under 141.
