High school swim meet postponed amid Hurricane Matthew
Area swimmers eager to taste gold will have to wait a week.
With Hurricane Matthew bearing down on the South Carolina coast, the S.C. High School League (SCHSL) was proactive in postponing the state swim meet in Columbia.
The event will now be held on Oct. 14 and 15 at the University of South Carolina Natatorium.
“We look forward to celebrating the ongoing fall sports competitions and pending championships while preparing for the possibility of less than desirable weather conditions,” said S.C. High School commissioner Jerome Singleton. “South Carolina is strong and well-trained in these preparations. We will do what is best for the safety of our student-athletes and their families as well as SCHSL coaches and staff.
“I hope this weekend’s anticipated storm will pass with our friends and neighbors out of harm’s reach.”
