Weekly golf tip with Brad Redding (Nov. 8, 2016)

Putting arc

Like all swings in golf, the club moves in an arc. The golf ball is to the side of you, so it would be difficult to swing the club straight back and through. The putting stroke is no different. It would be the least of an arc since the shaft of the putter is the most upright lie angle of all the clubs. The putting arc is a great aid in helping you develop this arcing motion.

Your body is parallel to the inside part of the board and the club heel is on the outside of the board. Start out just making strokes keeping the heel of the putter on the board. You will notice that the putter face is opening in the backswing and closing in the follow through. Then add a golf ball not aiming at a target and again focus on keeping the heel of the putter on the board. Practice on the putting green from about 8 feet. Putting arc is one of the best aids in developing an effective and proper stroke.
