AJGA returns to Barefoot Resort for Norman Academy Junior Championship
The American Junior Golf Association is returning with a strong field for the third consecutive year to Barefoot Resort for the 54-hole Greg Norman Champions Academy Junior Championship from Tuesday through Thursday on the Norman Course.
The 78-player field includes players from eight countries and 14 states, four winners of past AJGA events, and 16 players who have already committed to colleges.
They include Kendall Griffin, an LSU commitment from Sebring, Fla., who has five AJGA top-10 career finishes and advanced to the quarterfinals of this year’s U.S. Girls Junior Championship, and Parker Gillam, a Wake Forest commitment from Cary, N.C., who recently tied for fourth in the TaylorMade-adidas Golf Junior at Innisbrook hosted by Justin Rose.
Other girls who have committed include Anna Eddy (South Carolina), Claire Hodges (Virginia), Lauren Waidner (Florida) and Sera Tadokoro (Central Florida), and other boys who have committed include Andrew Crockett (Utah), Hal Dove (Auburn), Justin Emmons (UNC Greensboro), Liam McGrath (Furman), Sam Ohno (Dartmouth), Alejandro Soto (Colgate).
Entrants from the Grand Strand include Holden Grigg, Keegan Vaugh and Sam Shostek of Myrtle Beach, and McClure Thompson and Madison Elliott of Little River.
Vaugh and Thompson were among 17 players who advanced from a qualifier Sunday on the Norman Course that featured 90 players representing several states and countries.
Tournament tee times are from 7:15-11:45 a.m. all three days.
