Novak shoots 67 to take lead in search of second S.C. Am title in three years

Seeking his second South Carolina Amateur Championship title in three years, Andrew Novak of Mount Pleasant shot a 5-under-par 67 in the second round Friday at DeBordieu Club to take the tournament lead.

The rising senior at Wofford College and 2014 champion at The Reserve Club in Pawleys Island has a two-stroke lead at 7-under 137 over Clemson senior Carson Young of Pendleton, who shot a 69 in a second round that included more than three hours of weather delays.

Austin Frick of Myrtle Beach, a 2015 graduate of Francis Marion who will soon head to the University of Tennessee to pursue a Masters in Sport Psychology, shot a 69 and is tied for third with Weston Bell of Piedmont at 4-under 140.

First-round leader and South Carolina rising senior Ben Dietrich of Bluffton is tied for fifth with Matt Carter of Easley at 141, and 48-year-old Todd White of Spartanburg is one of four players tied for seventh at 142.

Seventy-two players made the cut to the final two rounds in the 85th playing of the tournament, including Judson Holliday of Aynor (T33, 148), Trey Salley of Pawleys Island (T51, 151) and Adam Langford of Murrells Inlet (T66, 153).
