Matt Bova of Bluffton, the head professional at Haig Point Club on Daufuskie Island, shot a 2-under-par 70 in Tuesday’s final round to win the 65th South Carolina Open Presented by Yamaha Golf Cars by a stroke at Dataw Island Club.
Bova made four birdies in the final round and got up and down for par on the par-5 18th from behind the green to an extremely difficult hole location to earn the victory at 3-under-141 and $3,275.
Tying for second were Oak Island Golf Club general manager Steve Isley, Daniel Island Club assistant Ray Franz and Larry George, the head pro at River Landing Country Club in Wallace, N.C., who carded the low round of the tournament Tuesday with a 66.
Derek Watson of Myrtle Beach tied for sixth at 1-over 145 to earn $1,016, Johnson Holliday of Aynor tied for 13th to finish in a tie for fourth among amateurs at 146, Stuart Clark of Pawleys Island tied for 23rd at 151 to earn $375, Dale Ketola of Little River tied for 31st at 153 and Mike Midgette of Conway tied for 35th at 155.
