A trip to Bermuda turned out to be pretty lucrative for a pair of Coastal Carolina alums.
Zack Byrd of Murrells Inlet and Charlie Winegardner tied for third this past weekend in the $75,000 Grey Goose World Par 3 Championship at Turtle Hill Golf Club in Bermuda.
They finished two shots behind winner Rafael Becker, a 24-year-old from Sao Paulo, Brazil, who earned the $10,000 winner’s check, and a shot behind runner-up and European golfing great Barry Lane.
Becker shot a two-day total of 4-under-par 104 at the Fairmont Southampton course. Bermuda’s Michael Sims tied the CCU alums for third, each earning $5,600. Byrd had four birdies and two bogeys in the tournament while Winegardner had seven birdies and five bogeys.
The PGA of Canada conducts the event. In addition to the professionals in the 150-player event, amateur golfers from Bermuda, the U.S., Canada and Europe vie for titles in men's, women's and senior amateur divisions.
Byrd’s next starts will likely come in GPro and Coastal Players tour events.
