Prestwick POA to take ownership of tennis and swim facilities
The property association at Prestwick Country Club has decided to take over ownership of the club’s tennis and swim facilities, though it is still working on its final plan for the property and amenities.
Prestwick Country Club is eliminating golf memberships and becoming solely a daily fee golf course on Dec. 31. It opened as a private club in 1989 and has been semi-private for the past couple decades.
Club owner The Jackson Companies is also ceasing to operate the tennis and swim facilities at the club after Dec. 31, and according to a letter to homeowners, it offered to lease or convey those amenities to the community's POA for $1 each so they can remain in operation at the discretion of the POA.
Prestwick POA president Jeff Patterson said the homeowner group plans to close on the purchase by the end of the year. The purchase will include 13 tennis courts, a pool and some other facilities.
“We will be taking possession of it,” Patterson said. “It will be a purchase and not a lease. We’re moving forward with a couple different discussions to how best use the land. We’re working toward finding out what the right solution is.”
The Jackson Companies chief executive officer Dennis Wade said in October that the company intends to continue operating the golf course for the foreseeable future.
