Charlotte residents Moosa, Shimp claim Carolinas junior titles
Madison Moosa of Charlotte, N.C., shot a 2-over-par 74 in the final round to win the 59th Carolinas Junior Girls' Championship at Rock Hill Country Club by a shot over Ashely Czarnecki of Greenville with a 6-over 222.
Czarnecki, the reigning S.C. Junior and S.C. Junior Match Play champion, shot a final-round 76. Kathleen Sumner of Charleston was third, a shot behind Czarnecki at 224.
Smith Knaffle of Murrells Inlet tied for 23rd with a 77-81-85–243 and Madison Elliott of North Myrtle Beach tied for 34th at 91-86-80–257.

Henry Shimp of Charlotte, N.C., successfully defended his title in the 66th Carolinas Junior Boys’ Championship with an 8-under-par 208 at Forest Oaks Country Club for a three-shot victory. Shimp, who had a lead entering the final round of the Carolinas Amateur three weeks ago but couldn’t hold on, shot a final-round 68 to close out the win.
Nicholas Lyerly of Salisbury, N.C., and reigning S.C. Junior champion Christian Salzer of Sumter tied for second at 5-under 211.
Ethan Vallery of Pawleys Island tied for eighth at 74-69-73–216, Patrick Golden of Murrells Inlet tied for 12th at 68-73-76–217, Holden Grigg of Myrtle Beach tied for 49th at 72-75-77–224, and Vijay Mishra of North Myrtle Beach tied for 57th at 78-72-77–227.
