Junior golf
Keegan Vaugh of Myrtle Beach tied for 50th Monday among 82 players in the Boys 12-13 age division of the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships with rounds of 85, 83 and 80 for a 248 total at PGA National Golf Club. Akshay Bhatia of Wake Forest, N.C., won by nine shots with a 10-under 206.
Vaugh advanced to the finals through a qualifier in May at River Hills Golf & Country Club. The finals continue with Boys 14-15 and Girls 13-14 competing Tuesday through Sunday, and Boys 16-18 and Girls 15-18 competing July 26-31.
Senior golf
Jim Merriman of North Myrtle Beach finished 19th in the 55-player Old North State Carolinas PGA Open on Tuesday, shooting a 5-over 73-76–149 at Old North State Club at Uwharrie Point.
Mitch Adams of Troy, N.C., won the CPGA senior series event by three strokes over Gus Ulrich of Whispering Pines, N.C., with a 7-under 137.
