Why Hootie & the Blowfish has canceled Monday After the Masters at Barefoot Resort

Citing the interest of public health and an abundance of caution, Hootie & the Blowfish has canceled the annual Monday After the Masters Celebrity Pro-Am and corresponding benefit concert that were scheduled for April 13.

The tournament, which was sold out with more than 6,000 spectator tickets sold for the 14th consecutive year, was to be played on Barefoot Resort’s Dye Club and the concert was to be held at the House of Blues at Barefoot Landing.

Fans who have purchased tickets can receive refunds at their point of purchase.

The tournament is in its 26th year and has been held at the Dye Club since moving to the Grand Strand in 2003. This will be the first full cancellation of the event.

The 25th Hootie MAM helped the band raise $360,000 last year for its foundation, through which it makes donations to children’s educational programs and junior golf in South Carolina.

The total is a combination of fundraising at the MAM and 2019 Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate men’s college golf tournament that the band hosts at Bulls Bay Golf Club in Awendaw, with the bulk of the money coming from the Barefoot event.

As of Thursday, the 2020 Hootie at Bulls Bay is scheduled to proceed on March 20-24, though the corresponding Hootie concert will not take place in light of current health concerns.

Celebrities who had committed to the MAM included Pittsburgh Steelers Hall of Fame center Dermontti Dawson, Jim Cantore of Weather Channel, actors John Ashton and Anthony Michael Hall, Tennessee Titans wide receiver Adam Humphries and actor/comedian Gary Valentine.

Committed pro golfers included two-time major champion John Daly, PGA Tour member Harold Varner III and former tour members Chris DiMarco and Robert Gamez. The primary list of participants was going to be released on Monday.

The band said in a statement Thursday that it plans to continue raising funds for its foundation through future events.
