Weekly golf tip with Brad Redding (Feb. 17)
Know the wind
Golf is an outdoor sport so there is no escaping the wind. The principle here is to use the wind to your advantage. To that end, think of your shots as breaking putts. The theory on the greens is that every putt is straight as far as you’re concerned. You simply aim at a point and let the slope take the ball to the hole.
This can be applied to full shots into crosswinds. Pick out a target at the point where you think the ball will be blown back to the green or fairway. The same applies for into the wind and downwind. Choose the appropriate club for the wind. Don’t change your swing; let the club do the work for you. Don’t ever underestimate the power of the wind on your shots.
