Georgia’s Conley wins Sunbelt’s Golfweek Amateur Tour Invitational at TPC
Tim Conley of Braselton, Ga., who was 4-over par after the first nine holes Saturday, rallied to win the Golfweek Amateur Tour Invitational with a 5-under 67 on Sunday at the Tournament Players Club of Myrtle Beach in Murrells Inlet.
It was the second straight Sunbelt Senior Tour victory for Conley and his seventh since 2011, as he also won the Palm Beach Senior Open title June 6 in Florida.
Conley started Saturday with bogeys at Nos. 1, 4, 8 and 9 to turn in 40 and shot 75 to trail by three, but shot the 67 Sunday for a 2-under 142 that was two shots better than Rob McKelvey of Atlanta, who made eight birdies and eight bogeys in the 12-player event. Conley earned $2,000 and McKelvey $1,500 from the $6,000 purse.
After birdies at the third and 10th holes and a bogey at No. 6, Conley finished with four birdies on the last five holes at 14, 15, 16 and 18. He earned $2,000 from the $6,000 purse.
The Grand Strand-based Sunbelt Senior Tour next has the 14th North Carolina Senior Open from Wednesday-Friday at Chicora Country Club in Dunn, N.C., and 15th South Carolina Senior Open from July 10-12 at the Grande Dunes Resort Course in Myrtle Beach.
