CCU football announces two early additions to 2016 roster

The Coastal Carolina football program won’t be able to announce its full 2016 recruiting class until National Signing Day next month, but the Chanticleers were able to formalize two early additions on Thursday.

Darrell Malone Jr., a 5-foot-10, 165-pound cornerback from Weston, Fla., joins the Chants as a true freshman, having already graduated from Cypress Bay High School and enrolled at Coastal Carolina.

And Marcus Outlow, a 5-foot-10, 205-pound running back, arrives as a transfer after two seasons at Boston College.

Both players will be with the Chants for spring practice, although Outlow will have to sit out the 2016 season due to NCAA transfer rules.

Malone was rated a two-star recruit by Rivals.com and was named a 2015 Associated Press 8A All-State Honorable Mention in Florida. His father Darrell Malone Sr. played for the Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins after being selected in the sixth round of the 1991 NFL Draft.

Outlow, meanwhile, played in 10 games this past season with Boston College, drawing three starts and rushing for 241 yards and a touchdown in 53 carries while catching four passes for 53 yards. He is from Norwich, Conn., and rushed for 1,546 yards and 26 touchdowns as a senior at Norwich Free Academy in 2013.
