Torrid front-nine gives Campbell lead in Big South women’s golf tourney; Chanticleers second

Two shots down coming into the day, a team aggregate of 293 Tuesday allowed Campbell to leave DeBordieu Golf Club in Georgetown up two strokes at the Big South Women’s Golf Championship.

Led by Nadine White, who carded a tournament-low 2-under 70, the Camels had two players shoot under par in the round. Tahnia Ravnjak’s four birdies in a five-hole span highlighted a 4-under front nine for Campbell, which led by as many as six shots before bogeys toward the end of the round brought it back to the pack.

White heads into the final round as the event’s overall leader with a 1-under 143.

Coastal Carolina entered today’s round at DeBordieu with a two-shot lead, but a second day aggregate of 297 allowed Campbell to seize advantage and draw closer to its third Big South title in five years. The Chanticleers are led by Lena Schaeffner, who shot a 2-under 74 on Tuesday and will come into the final round 1-over par.

Campbell and Coastal Carolina have separated themselves from the rest of the pack, however, with 12 strokes between the Chanticleers and third-place Charleston Southern, which comes into Wednesday’s round of play with an overall 603. Behind the Buccaneers is Winthrop (609) and Gardner-Webb (623) to round out the top five.

Final round action begins Wednesday at 8 a.m.
