Coastal Carolina did its part to set the tone for the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational, a bevy of Chanticleers finishing in the top 20 in their respective events.
Among the competitions that were part of the annual event’s opening day included the women’s heptathlon, men’s decathlon, men’s hammer throw, in addition to the men’s and women’s 10,000-meter run.
The top performer on the day was Coastal Carolina assistant cross country and track and field coach Zola Pieterse, who won the women’s 10,000-meter run with a time just shy of 39 minutes. She outpaced the second-place finisher by more than 30 seconds.
Nick Seabright had a stellar day as well, currently sitting fourth in the decathlon after five events. He placed no lower than sixth in any event during the course of the day.
Also, Ryan Minor placed fourth in the men’s hammer throw, while Zach Bolton and Kieran Moore finished 16th and 18th in the event, respectively.
Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational activities resume Friday morning with the decathlon and heptathlon events beginning at 9 a.m. The Amber Campbell Invitational women’s hammer throw will be held at 11:30 a.m., with track events starting at 12:30 p.m.
