Women’s golf
After playing the final 36 holes at 7-under par, the Coastal Carolina women’s golf team took a runner-up finish Saturday in the 16-team 3M Augusta Invitational at the par-72, 6,246-yard Forest Hills Golf Club.
The Chanticleers entered the day in 10th place, and was led by Malene Krolboll Hansen and Lena Schaeffner on the individual leaderboard as both shot a 4-under 212 to finish in a four-way tie for runner-up honors.
Three Chanticleers – Bailey Cocca, Schaeffner and Hansen – shot rounds in the 60s during round two in leading the Chants into the event's top four. As a team, Coastal posted a 5-under 283 during the second round as Cocca tied for the fifth-lowest round in CCU history with a career-best 67. Schaeffner and Hansen shot matching rounds of 69.
Host school Augusta, ranked No. 42 by Golfstat, won the event with a 3-under 861 (298-283-280).
Meanwhile, the Chants' second-round 283 ranks as the fifth-best round in program history, and the third-round 286 is tied for ninth-best. The Chants return to action March 21-23 at the annual Briar's Creek Invitational, hosted by College of Charleston at The Golf Club at Briar's Creek in Johns Island.
Men’s tennis
(At) Coastal Carolina 4, James Madison 0 | The Chanticleers took down the Dukes at the Coastal Carolina Tennis Complex and have now won three straight matches and improved to 9-2 overall with just three non-conference matches remaining.
Softball
▪ (At) Coastal Carolina 9, Buffalo 4 | The Chanticleers’ offense, led by Morgan Noad and Kelsey Dominik’s three RBIs apiece, exploded for four runs in the third inning and added four more in the fourth as they took down Buffalo.
Taty Forbes was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored to help Coastal, whose starter Taylor Rahach picked up the win after striking out three and allowing four runs in four innings of work.
▪ Memphis 8, (at) Coastal Carolina 3 | The Tigers scored four runs in the second inning and tacked on three more in the third to take a commanding seven-run lead, and held off the Chanticleers for a victory.
Kyler Trosclair and Addison Maxwell had three hits apiece and each drove in a run, and Regan Hadley was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored to pace Memphis (10-15). Tigers starter Katie Brignac (2-4) allowed 12 hits, one walk and struck out six across seven frames.
Coastal starter Ashley Guillette received the loss as she allowed five hits and two walks for six runs (three earned) in 2 1/3 innings. The Chanticleers were led on offense by Morgan Noad (3-4, RBI) and Bri Chisuano (2-4, 2 runs).
