Indoor track and field
Emma Kroger broke a school record by leaping 12 feet, 9 1/2 inches in the pole vault to win gold at the Big South indoor track and field championship Saturday.
Kyla van Graan added a first-place finish in the 5,000 meters (17:10.38) to help the Chanticleers finish second as a team, outpaced by a Liberty squad that dominated.
“It was an outstanding performance for us,” CCU coach Jeff Jacobs said.
van Graan also earned All-Big South honors in the 3,000 meters (9:40.25) and her sister, Aynslee earned honors in the 800 meters (2:14.91) and mile (4:56.48). Other All-Big South performers included Teka Simpson (200 meters, third, 24.69; long jump, third, 18-8) and Amirah Al-Bayyinah (second, 41-2 1/2).
Other performers who scored points for Coastal on Saturday were: Simpson (60m, sixth, 7.78; high jump, sixth, 5-5); Kalila Naules (60m, seventh, 7.81; long jump, fifth, 18-4 1/2; triple jump, fifth, 38-2); Karissa Lunn (60m, eighth, 7.82); Imani Boatwright (800m, seventh, 2:18.54); Lisha van Onselen (800, eighth, 2:19.64; mile, eighth, 5:06.43); Kyla van Graan (mile, sixth, 5:03.42); Rachel Byrd (5,000m, eighth, 18:46.22); Anacia Hines (60m hurdles, fifth, 8.88); Al-Bayyinah (long jump, sixth, 18-3 3/4); Kelsey Briggs (long jump, eighth, 17-9 1/2); Veneshia Holmes (triple jump, eighth, 37-0 1/4); Raven Hamilton (high jump, fifth, 5-5); Chloe White (high jump, eighth, 5-3); and Samantha Layko (shot put, seventh, 40-7 3/4).
The Chants’ 1,600-meter relay team – Jonnay Anthony, Boatwright, Anacia Hines, Rozelle Meier – placed seventh (3:56.06).

Men’s golf
The Coastal Carolina men’s golf team shot 23-over 311 to sit in a tie for 12th after two rounds of the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational.
The Chants were at 38-over 614, 33 shots behind leader Oklahoma State.
Coastal’s Luis Ruiz (75) was tied for 21st (149), Thadd Obency II (78) was tied for 38th (153), Alfredo Ruiz (78) was tied for 46th (154), Olle Widegren (84) was tied for 82nd (162) and Daniel Overas (80) was 85th (163).
Softball
The Coastal Carolina softball team won a pair of games in the Coastal Carolina Invitational, beating Iowa 10-8 and Georgia Southern 9-5.
Alexis Alvino drove in three runs in the opener and Conrad Mackenzie plate four in the nightcap.
Men’s tennis
(At) Duke 4, Coastal Carolina 0: The Chants were swept by the Blue Devils.
Women’s tennis
Coastal Carolina 6, (at) Gardner-Webb 1: The Chants cruised past the Runnin’ Bulldogs.
