Chants fall in conference opener
A career night by both Nicole Isaacs and Ced Gibson was not enough for Coastal Carolina, as Campbell walked into The HTC Center and earned an 83-70 victory in the teams’ Big South opener.
Isaacs scored 32 points, making nine 3-pointers and shooting 50 percent from the field. Gibson was as lethal, also making half her shots, while making four 3-point shots en route to a 24-point night. She also dished out three assists.
But this night belonged to to Campbell, which shot better than 63 percent of its shots in the second half. More importantly, the Fighting Camels handled business at the free throw line, making 28 of 37 attempts.
The loss was the Chanticleers’ first to open the conference season under coach Jaida Williams, and first since 2010-11.
Coastal Carolina if off for a week before getting back on the court next Wednesday for a matchup with Warren Wilson at The HTC Center. Tip-off is at 4 p.m.
