Coastal Carolina roundup (Oct. 17)
Coastal Carolina’s Letitia Saayman broke a school record for a 6k race on Saturday by taking 11th place (20:15) in the Pre-Nationals cross country meet.
Saayman broke a record held by former Chant Diana Jepchirchir (20:24).
“That was just an oustanding race,” Chants coach Jeff Jacobs said. “Letitia was the top finisher out of our region, which really bodes well for her in the regional championships in four week. She should have a good opportunity to qualify for nationals.”
Kyla van Graan finished 59th (20:53), Aynslee van Graan was 75th (21:00), Rachel Byrd was 296th (22:40) and Regina Peattie placed 311th (24:42) as Coastal finished 29th out of 45 schools. The Chants finished higher than several bigger schools including Florida (30th) and Clemson (32nd).
“It definitely was a strong finish,” Jacobs said. “We were very competitive in a national-level field.”
