Coastal Carolina roundup (Sept. 21)

Sergio Camargo notched his third career multi-goal game to lead the Coastal Carolina men’s soccer team to a 3-1 win over UAB on Monday.

Camargo scored in the seventh minute and 39th minute to get the Chants out to a 2-0 lead.

UAB’s Freddy Ruiz cut Coastal’s lead to 2-1 in the 68th minute.

However, Miguel Gutierrez scored in the 74th minute to essentially put the game away.

Men’s golf

The Coastal Carolina men’s golf team remained in eighth place in the Rees Jones Invitational after shooting 14-over 302 in the second round Monday.

The Chants had a two-day total of 608, 27 strokes behind leader Liberty.

Coastal’s Olle Widegren (74) was tied for 11th (148), Alfredo Ruiz (74) was tied for 23rd (151), Ryan Carpenter (77) was tied for 33rd (153), Luis Ruiz (77) was tied for 39th (156) and Thadd Obency II (77) was in 44th place (157)

Women’s golf

The Coasta Carolina women’s golf team shot a 22-over 310 to sit in 11th place after the second round of the Lady Paladin Invitational.

The Chants posted a two-day total of 39-over 615, 35 strokes behind leader Wake Forest.

Coastal’s Malene Krolboll Hansen (78) was tied for 42nd (152), Bailey Cocca (76) was tied for 47th (154), Marie Lunackova (79) was tied for 62nd (156), Lena Schaeffner (82) was tied for 67th (157) and Barbora Bakova (78) was in 76th place (159).

Women’s soccer

Coastal Carolina’s Kayla Christian was named Big South Soccer Attacking Player of the Week.

Christian scored the game-winning goal in overtime against North Carolina State on Wednesday.

Volleyball

Coastal Carolina volleyball player Carla Cahill was named Big South Freshman of Week.

Cahill averaged 3.78 digs per set in the Holiday Inn Hawkeye Invitational over the weekend.
