Coastal Carolina junior Devin Brown was named STATS FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday.

Brown returned his fifth career kickoff for a touchdown in the Chanticleers’ 34-27 season-opening win over Western Illinois on Saturday. His career total is a Big South record and just one shy of the NCAA FCS all-time mark.

Brown returned five kicks for a school-record 195 yards against the Leathernecks. It was the seventh-best single-game total in Big South history, helping him also earn Big South Special Teams Plaayer of the Week honors.

Staying put in polls

Coastal remained No. 1 in the FCS Coaches poll and second in the FCS STATS poll. Both were released Monday.
