Saayman earns individual win as Coastal Carolina cross country teams finish runners-up
Coastal Carolina’s Letitia Saayman outpaced the field by over 40 seconds for an individual win in the Carolina Challenge cross country meet Saturday.
Saayman finished in 17:50.25, far ahead of runner-up Aynslee van Graan, also of Coastal.
“It was a pretty dominant win for her,” CCU coach Jeff Jacobs said.
The Chants took second as a team, finishing four points behind South Carolina.
Coastal’s Kyla Van Graan placed fifth (19:05), Rachel Byrd was 10th (19:39) and Regina Peattie finished 22nd (20:58).
The CCU men finished second as well, six points behind The Citadel.
Josh Small led the way for Coastal, finishing fourth (17:05), followed by Riaz Tyler in fifth (17:21), Zach Hensel in seventh (17:41), Elijah Shaw in eighth (17:43) and Jarrett Ashby in 14th (18:34).
